Barrier Biopolymers for sustainable packaging

 

Barrier Bioplastic coating for packaging: Sensitive/fresh food, cosmetic, pharma products need tailored protection generally brought by multilayer plastic film. Coatings based on whey protein, an underutilized by-product from cheese making, were developed for replacing currently used expensive synthetic oxygen barrier layers for packaging applications while safeguarding their recyclability. IRIS upscaled their production up to a TRL7 based on a patented process.
